Rooftop Grease Containment in the Bay Area

NFPA 96 compliant service for restaurants and commercial kitchens across all 9 Bay Area counties, scheduled after hours.

What Is Rooftop Grease Containment?

Even a well-maintained exhaust fan pushes some grease out onto the roof. Over time it collects around the fan curb, soaks into the roofing and spreads with every rain.

Rooftop grease containment captures that discharge before it does damage. We clean up existing grease around the fan, service grease containment units and absorbent pads where they are installed, and point out where containment is missing.

Why It Matters for Fire Safety and NFPA 96

Grease on a roof is fuel sitting right next to a hot exhaust fan. It also breaks down many roofing materials, which can lead to leaks and costly repairs. Rain washes the grease into gutters and drains, where it becomes a cleanup problem of its own.

Keeping the roof around your fan clean is part of keeping the exhaust system safe, and it shows inspectors and landlords that the whole system is maintained.

Our Process, Step by Step

  1. 1

    Inspect the roof area

We look at the fan curb, roof surface and drains around the exhaust fan for grease buildup and damage.

  2. 2

    Remove spilled grease

Pooled and caked grease is scraped up and cleaned off the surrounding area.

  3. 3

    Service containment

Existing grease boxes or absorbent filters are emptied, cleaned or replaced as needed.

  4. 4

    Contain runoff

During the fan cleaning, runoff is captured so it does not spread across the roof.

  5. 5

    Report

Photos show the roof before and after, and any roof damage or missing containment is noted for you.

Signs You Need Rooftop Grease Containment

  • Dark stains or shiny grease patches around the exhaust fan
  • Blistering or soft spots in the roofing near the fan curb
  • Grease showing up in gutters or downspouts
  • Your landlord or roofer has raised concerns about grease

Documentation You Receive

After every job you get a before-and-after photo report showing the work, a certificate of performance listing what was cleaned and when, and a dated sticker on your hood. Keep them on file for your local fire inspector, your insurance carrier and your landlord.

Rooftop Grease Containment FAQs

Do you install grease containment systems?

Tell us what you need when you request a quote. At a minimum, we'll note in your report whether containment is missing or worn out and should be added.

Is rooftop grease really a fire risk?

Yes. Grease is flammable, and on the roof it sits right next to a hot exhaust fan. Cleaning it up removes fuel from the end of your exhaust system.

How often should containment be serviced?

Usually at every exhaust cleaning. High-volume kitchens may need it more often, and your report will show how fast grease is building up.
